Support Roger Burston
Roger Burston was born and raised in Plymouth before making his home in London. He started his career in accounting with British Airways but soon shifted to human resources within the financial services sector in the City of London. He joined the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development, an organisation set up to assist transition within the countries of Eastern Europe after the fall of the Berlin Wall. He then worked at the Asian Development Bank in the Philippines, whose focus was to reduce poverty in the Asia and Pacific region. From there he spent 5 years working for the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC.
Why get active in politics now?
"My experience working overseas in international financial and development organisations in Asia and in the USA has given me an appreciation of international cooperation, diplomacy and the huge benefits of our country’s global reach rather than as a country wishing to isolate itself from the international arena.
"As a campaigner for a People's Vote, I strongly believe that our country’s politics needs to be overhauled, I am determined to devote my time to help create a new political centre-ground, as our two-party system is broken beyond repair.
"I believe membership of the European Union provides major benefits for our country and that the decision to hold a referendum was more about resolving the divisions within the Conservative Party, rather than for any tangible benefits outside of the bloc. I do not believe the EU is perfect, and if elected I would play my part in helping to reform the organisation from within - just like I have done during my career - but in a positive and constructive way.
"We need a reset with the EU and with Europe to show that the United Kingdom continues to be a strong partner, a trustworthy friend and I wish to play my part in rebuilding our relationship for a new future."
Reunite the people. Reunite with Europe.
On Saturday 19th October, join Renew on the People's Vote march. We will be joining hundreds of thousands of others who will be taking to the streets to demand that our voices be heard and that the people are given the final say on Brexit.
We will meet outside the London Hilton on Park Lane at 12 pm and join the march from there. And if you're down earlier, come and find us at the Serpentine Bar and Kitchen in Hyde Park from 10 am.
Everyone is welcome and we encourage as many people as possible to come down, get involved, and meet the team! RSVP below, and we'll see you there!WHENOctober 19, 2019 at 12pmWHEREOutside the Hilton Hotel
